FAQ

  • Why should I trust you?

Like many tutors, I did very well on the LSAT. I scored in the 99th percentile on an officially administered LSAT and went through the law school application process, going on to graduate from Berkeley Law.

What sets me apart is that I have over 25 years of experience as an LSAT instructor and tutor, teaching my first students in 1998. Over the years I’ve worked with literally thousands of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. If you subscribe to the idea that 10,000 hours makes you an expert, then I’m an expert a few times over; I have spent significantly more than 10,000 hours analyzing this test and working with others to aid their understanding. I’m confident I can teach you how to get your best possible score.

You can learn a bit more here, or you can book a free consultation and I’ll tell you of my law school journey using puppetry and interpretive dance.

  • How long should I prep?

Most people prepare for 3-6 months.

However, I’ve worked with some students for over a year, and I’ve had a handful of students who did very well after only 3 to 6 weeks of preparation.

It depends on factors such as what score you are starting with, what score you are aiming for, how much time per week you can devote to studying, and how quickly this kind of thinking makes sense to you.

Take a free practice test offered by the LSAC and set up a free initial consultation and we can discuss.

  • How do sessions work?

We meet using Zoom and sessions are usually 60, 90, or 120 minutes long. Some students only need a session or two, but many students meet on an ongoing basis, either once or twice a week.

If we are meeting on an ongoing basis we will sketch out what we want to cover when we first meet, whether that be a schedule of practice tests, a detailed plan to improve certain skills, or a schedule to learn the test from the ground up.

All students need a current LawHub Advantage account.

  • I took another prep course. Can you still help me?

Definitely! If you are using or have used another test prep program, it shouldn’t be an issue because the logic is all the same.

Also, I happen to think my analogies and explanations are clearer and more entertaining than nearly any others out there.

  • How much do you charge?

My available time is scarce and working with me is not cheap. I bill at $180 per hour, but a strong score can literally save you tens of thousands of dollars in tuition and increase your lifelong earning potential by tens if not hundreds of thousands more.

This is an investment in your future, and if we work together I’m going to be doing all I can to make sure your money is well-spent.

Discounts and tutoring packages are available, and I’m committed to making my services available to students from many backgrounds. So, if you are interested but can’t swing the cost, reach out and we can see what we can do.

  • Do you offer any discounts?

    Yes! Discounts are available!

First-time session special: Get two hours for just $200.

Save more with tutoring packages and group sessions, which reduce the hourly rate. Plus, LSAC fee waiver recipients, Underground Scholars, and other partners qualify for additional discounts.

  • What days and times are you available?

Because I often work with people who are either working or in school, I schedule most of my meetings during evening hours and on the weekends.

I am in the Pacific Time Zone and I rarely meet before 7 a.m. or after 10 p.m. PT.

  • Are you available to speak to my pre-law group?

Absolutely! I am happy to speak to your pre-law group about preparing for the LSAT. If you are in the SF Bay Area, I can do so in person. Otherwise, we can set up a group meeting on Zoom. Contact me for more information.

  • What kinds of questions are on the LSAT?/Is the LSAT timed?/When is the next LSAT?/Can I get accommodations?/etc.

The LSAT is a test of careful reading of text and critical thinking. It is NOT a test of legal knowledge.

But these sorts of questions are best answered by going to the source: lsac.org.

  • Do you use real LSAT questions?

Absolutely! All students must have an active LawHub Advantage account which will allow us to work with all of the officially released LSAT questions. If you aren’t sure what you already have and/or what you will need, book a free consultation and we will get you set up.

  • Refund Policy

Individual hours purchased but not used will be refunded.

Packages are non-refundable with one exception: if, after the first session, the student does not want to use the remaining hours, the used time will be billed at the standard hourly rate and the remaining balance will be refunded. Please note: this is only an option after the first session.

I reserve the right to end the tutoring relationship at any time, with or without cause, whereupon all unused time will be refunded.

  • Cancellation Policy

Busy lives with hectic schedules are normal and I understand that sometimes students cancel/reschedule at the last minute. So, everybody gets one free pass.

If a student cancels or reschedules with less than 24 hours notice more than once, the student will be charged for the scheduled session. If the student cancels or reschedules with 24 or more hours notice, they will not be charged for the session.

Excessive cancellations can result in a termination of the tutoring relationship.
